Thing #15 Library 2.0

How will HCPL fare in its Library 2.0 role? Library 2.0 uses Web 2.0 tools to make it more user-centric. Furthermore, Library 2.0 does not limit access to the web. Can HCPL be the place where you can create mashups? I think it can; the real question is whether the library has reliable enough connectivity to support such functions. We are lucky to have a director that recognizes the importance of Web 2.0. Our director has planted her foot firmly on the side of allowing social networking in the library. Now we need to move toward incorporating 2.0 technology within HCPL's website (will it be named the ebranch). Librarians need to become more versed in Web 2.0 in order to use it to enchance the library's functionality. We need to be in communication and work cooperatively with all levels to establish a path for HCPL's use of Web 2.0. We cannot be left on a dusty shelf. We must embrace this technology and make the library better with it and for the users.
